After scoring on his debut for Leeds at the weekend, Enoch Showumni could be the answer to Leeds United’s striker woes and provide us with the powerful forward presence Tresor Kandol should have, but ultimately failed to provide during his time at Elland Road.

The 6 ft 6 inch striker made his professional debut for Luton Town back in 2003, where he spent 3 years, made over 100 appearances but found the net only 14 times. His first season for Luton however earnt him much acclaim from the Town fans. Enoch showed plenty of skill and pace, and although he only notched up 7 goals in his 28 appearances that year, he did provide a spark that Luton fans had gravely missed. The end of the season saw him make his international debut for Nigeria. He came on as a sub and failed to make much of an impact. Enoch did get another chance to shine for his country, again coming on as a late sub against Jamaica, but he once more provided little in terms of World-class skill and not been recalled since.

In 2006 Showumni left Luton for Bristol City where he signed under the Bosman ruling. He made an excellent start to the season scoring on his first three appearances, but was ultimately to find himself on the bench for the majority of games as injuries held him back and Bristol’s other strikers shone. He did however notch up 13 goals and finish the season as Bristols second highest scorer.

Since then Enoch’s struggled to hold down a first team place and was subsequently loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday. Upon his return to Bristol, Enoch vowed to help the clubs promotion challenge and fight for a regular spot in the first team. He was however deemed unrequired by the club and has now signed a two-year deal with Leeds, where if his debut is anything to go by, I’m sure he’ll become an instant hit with the Elland Road faithful.
